Unit 3: Research

So, considering my very generalised initial research, I've decided to try and research into separate aspects of my 3 words to see if the break down of it can help me with any story ideas. After looking into bowling balls and realising that, in fact, they are literally just bowling balls with no hidden symbolism or interpretation in dreams, I went on to focus on the art gallery and decided to look into what the meaning of art work or paintings can be portrayed as. 
I found an interpretation of paintings in dreams and what they are supposed to stand for, so I thought i'd document it in case it lent itself to some future idea. 

Painting in a Dream | What does it mean when I dream about painting?

To dream of painting means creativity and your need for self-expression. The painting is symbolic of your intuition and inner realizations. To dream that you are painting a picture means that you need to express your creative side more. To dream you are painting a wall means a change in your surroundings, your life, a situation, your outlook etc. To dream that you are painting a house means that you will find much success in a new project and that you will be promoted to a coveted position. You may be expressing your creativity. To dream of a painting of a man high up on the wall means your ideal man. To dream of painting over something means a disguise, a cover up or a facade. To dream of a artistic painting means self-expression, look for symbology or messages within the picture.

Attempting to use some of the creatures I researched as inspiration for the negative space the Pagan Colossus could create in an environment, or the shape left behind when he's not there.

The ones that appealed to me more are highlighted; these ones seemed more interesting and gave me the impression more could be done with them.

Playing around with shapes in plasticine again, figuring out different angles and different lighting.

Researching more into remote locations and seeing how the Pagan Colossus could potentially fit into them.

Birmingham Canyon Copper Mine: 

I decided to look more into the Birmingham Canyon Copper Mine because of the indentations that the excavations have created. This is the sort of size I should be looking at for my digital set, it's also good in terms of negative space and the structure of the excavation site.

Unit 2: Research (Creature Mechanics)

Since my character is now going to be animal based, or have the characteristics of animals, and has to have the ability to tuck himself away into his lairs, I decided to look into the way other creatures curl up. 

Bathynomus giganticus:

'This startling creature is a "tatui". If it looks like a woodlouse, well it is a sort of cousin, but much, much, bigger! In fact Bathynomus giganticus, the largest species of tatui, can reach up to 76 centimetres long and weigh up to 1.7 kilograms! They can, slightly bizarrely, curl up into a ball just like their miniature cousins.'

Armadillos:

'Armadillos have hard plates that cover their back, sides and top of their head. These hard plates protect them from attacks from other animals. All armadillos curl up to protect their soft underside. Armadillos can jump up to 3 feet straight up into the air to startle a predator. Also, when the armadillo jumps up he may hit his predator in the mouth with his hard armor and dislocate the predator's jaw.'

'They scrape off algae and small animals off rocky surfaces using their wonder toothed tongue. Chitons have teeth coated by magnetite, making their teeth comparable in hardness to a kitchen knife!'

Unit 2: Research (Remote Locations)

In my previous idea, I just assumed my Pagan Colossus would be forest bound due to the nature aspects of Paganism. However, I've decided to broaden my search and look at different nature locations on Earth to see what sort of areas he could lay dormant in. 

Taking my characters back story into consideration, I've decided that he would change location every hundred years or so, meaning he has various Lairs across the Earth, each one of them in different climates, which means my characters has to be able to adapt and live in each of them.

There is also his size to take into consideration, would he be able to stay above ground and remain hidden if he is taller than most trees that grow on the Earth? Or would he have to resort to burrowing underground?
